Who is ... ?

Q: JAS-ANZ?
A: One of the accreditation bodies that approves and oversees the operations of the Third Party certification bodies. JAS-ANZ stands for "Joint Accreditation System for Australia and New Zealand".

Q: Accredited to carry out certifications? Certified by Third party?
A: You can find a list of accredited organisations and all certified companies that appear on the JAS-ANZ Register. There you can also see what types of Clients each certification body has in your industry sector, so that you can make your own assessment of who might be the most suitable certifier for your organisation.

Q: Responsible for achieving certification for your company?
A: You are, but JAPL will guarantee that the management system and associated documentation we provide for any products offered will comply with the requirements of the associated standard(s).

What is ... ?

Q: Third party certification?
A: Independent certification by an accredited certification body that does not set the certification criteria, e.g. the certification standard(s), nor has any conflicting interest with organisation being certified.

Q: Second party certification?
A: Certification by Client/Client, or their representative, against criteria set by the Client. The criteria may include any combination of standard(s) requirements and specific Client requirements.

Q: Better? Third or Second party certification?
A: This depends entirely on your circumstances. If majority of your income is from a single Client then a Second party certification is a much cheaper and often quite adequate alternative, however, if you have many Clients or intend to grow your Client base, Third party certification is preferable and increases your chances of getting recognition both in Australia and overseas.
